    1863: 50 c. green on bluish wove thin paper, a vertical unused strip of four with large margins all round, from the base of the sheet - the strip being the four stamps printed sideways - Types 1/2/1/2. Minor wrinkles not detracting from the truly superb appearance with partial original gum, unmounted og. on the two central stamps.     1928: Artigas issue, Waterlow Essay for the 2 c. value, hand-painted in issued colour of deep green, pale green background and floral design (later removed) and lettering picked out in Chinese white with Waterlow imprint at base; stamp size and inset into thick card (72 x 102 mm.) and marked 'B' at lower left with embossed Waterlow seal at right; together with two bromide photographs retained from the Waterlow archives. The adhesives with small peripheral marginal faults but a very rare cover: only three first issue interpanneau frankings have been recorded Gi P56 = £ 350++/Scott = $ 450++.rn

Reverse with Santiago transit cds, thence via Buenos Aires and Genoa to Milan where resealed with VERIFICATO / CENSURA (69). Geneva arrival cds (Jan 19, 1918) on reverse. The cover probably from a prisoner taken after the 'SMS Dresden' was scuttled off Robinson Crusoe Island in 1915.
