Lot# 688 - Auction 298-307

  • Lot# : 688 New South Wales

1850 (Jan 1): Sydney View 1 d. brownish-red, Plate 1 with no clouds, an unused example, position 7 on the sheet of 25 subjects, with large even margins all round, of rich colour and fine impression, unused without gum. A magnificent stamp. Cert. RPSV (2022) Scott 1a = $ 17'250 / Gi = £ 17'000.rnNote: On a 'provenance' check for this stamp, there appear to be less than half a dozen examples of this shade in unused condition. Therefore to find a faultless example of this stamp listed is a great rarity.  The George Ginger sale (Robson Lowe, Dec 1945) had two unused examples: lot 37 (faded) and lot 38 (thinned), this last was sold in the "Manwood" sale, Siegel, Nov 1995, lot 4009; otherwise our search has not been forthcoming for an example in such fiine condition as that offered above.
