    1872: De La Rue artist's composite Essay for the 36 c. value (issued in blue), imperforate on thick card with head-plate in lilac taken from the 1867 De La Rue 1 d. or 3 d., the surround to the head-plate hand-painted in purple and Chinese white, the "Ceylon Postage" and "Thirty Six Cents" and frame hand-painted in deep violet over pencil. Exquisite and unique.
