    1854/55: India 1 a. red, Die I, nine single examples, overlapping to avoid the address, used on 1855 entire letter from Pondichery to Bordeaux endorsed "Steamer via Suez", prepaid 1 a. internal and 8 a. to Alexandria, all tied by dotted lozenge in black. Reverse with framed PONDICHERY datestamp of despatch (Feb 10) with crescent INDIA PAID in red on obverse. Madras transit (Feb 12) in red, with French entry marking overstruck by '10' décimes due marking in black, for a letter under 7½ grams.
