    1907: 2 d. dull and bright purple and 4 d. grey-green & black, wmk. Multiple Crown CA on chalk surfaced paper, unused examples of these great rarities, prepared but unissued due to the name change from British Central Africa to Nyasaland Protectorate, each of fresh colour and fine, if slightly aged, large part og., sold together with the somewhat less valuable 1 d. and 6 d. values from the set. Delightful and extraordinarily rare "it is estimated that no more than a dozen examples of each remain in collector's hands" - Stanley Gibbons. Signed A. Diena. Cert. A.     Nyasaland Protectorate 1911 (June 16): De La Rue composite Essay for proposed £ 25 value, the design showing Edward VII head-plate even though George V had ascended to the throne in May 1910, stamp size imperforate on thick card (89 x 114 mm.) with frame hand-painted in deep bright green and lettering in Chinese white, the £25 Duty Plates at top and NYASALAND PROTECTORATE in red on card paper applied over the handpainted design. Marked "A1." at top and dated "June 16th 11" at upper right, and in pencil at base "Colours submitted reversed". One of three such De La Rue Essays proposed for the high 'Gun License' stamp, this however inscribed POSTAGE / REVENUE, the others inscribed REVENUE / REVENUE or POSTAGE / POSTAGE, all are dated on the same day. The "Tatiana" pair was soiled and had a heavy corner crease and was torn at top, in this describer's opinion this famous multiple is by far the finer of the two examples known.
