    Recess by De La Rue 1863/66: 1 d. deep blue, wmk. Crown CC type 5, perf. 12½, a used horizontal strip of five above a strip of four, applied to reverse of 1868 envelope from Colombo to London endorsed "via Southampton", all cancelled by barred obliterator handstamps in black with "Colombo" (May 4) despatch cds at left and both 'Galle / Paid' and 'London / Paid' cds's adjacent. Opening tear below the adhesives but a most attractive usage.

Crown CC type 5, perf. 12½, a horizontal strip of three used on 1865 cover from Livorno, Italy to Forwarding Agents Vandespar & Co. in Pointe de Galle endorsed 'via Bombay', franked by Italy 1863 10 c. buff and 40 c. carmine (2) tied by 'Livorno' despatch cds's (Dec 4) in black. Reverse with "Foggia-Brindisi" TPO cds (Dec 7) and "Alexandria" British P.O. cds (Dec 11). Struck on arrival with "GALLE / PAID" cds in red and forwarded on to Madras (via Bombay deleted) and franked with the Ceylon adhesives for this purpose. The adhesives originally folded over the top of the envelope and probably a further two 1 d. adhesives missing but a spectacular usage nevertheless.
