    Lithographed by Thomas Ham 1850 (May): Half-Length 2 d. dull brownish-lilac, Fourth State, Sixth printing Retouched, a wonderful used horizontal strip of three positions 4-5-6, just touched on first stamp but with huge margins on three sides (from corner of the sheet), of lovely fresh colour and showing the first two stamps with minor retouches and the third with the 'Pineapple' Retouch clearly showing, all cancelled by "33" Butterfly handstamp of Upper Glenelg in black. Cut between fifth and sixth stamp at top and some minor bends not affecting the splendid appearance. An exceptionally rare multiple - just two strips of three of this stamp are recorded, these being the largest known multiples. Cert.     1854/1901: Proof for 1 shilling value in black on wove paper (127 x 172 mm., horizontal crease in paper well below the design), the approved design being inked as illustrated in black and grey on greyish background, at left an albino impression of different wording with "POSTAGE / ONE SHILLING" instead of approved "VICTORIA / ONE SHILLING". The top of sheet with "No. 4 / Impression from the Original Steel Plate" typed in blue ink and underlined, referring to the series number of the Proof, not the number printed. Two (Robson Lowe) or three (Rod Perry) impressions are believed to have been struck from the Original Die on the occasion of the Duke of Cornwall & York's (later King George V) visit to Australia in 1901. Calvert with Victoria's head surrounded by two octagonal frames in white, probably modelled on the Great Britain 1847/54 embossed issue, with VICTORIA at top with stars at each side, printed in pale brownish-pink on white, affixed to small piece of wove paper (35 x 36 mm.).     Stamp Duty 1879: Die Proof for 2 s. value in yellow-brown on green wove paper, 36 x 57 mm., engraved by Arthur Williams of Sands & MacDougall, typographed at the Victorian Stamp Printer's. Unfinished State of the Die with letters 'J' and 'L' missing from the top corners, these letters standing for Charles Jackson and Ludwig Lang who designed much of the 1879 Stamp Duty series.     Stamp Duty 1884/1900: £ 25 deep green, £ 50 blackish-violet and £ 100 crimson, perf. 12½, wmk. V over Crown sideways, upright on the £ 100, the set of three values all with margins all round, the £ 50 with some colour-run in margin and trace of aging on reverse in margin, the £ 100 with merest trace of colour loss at lower right, however these are negligible imperfections on what is one of the rarest of all 19th Century stamp issues in mint condition, the sole set this describer has seen in 45 years in philately. A magnificent and extremely rare set in superb largely fresh condition, superb large part og. A dramatic and extremely rare set for the philatelic connoisseur. Certs. (3) BPA (2004) Gi = £ 210'000.
