The cover endorsed '26½'  but the original endorsement mis-read as '20½' grams and accepted, however this was noticed by the receiving Postal Clerk in Mons (Aug 11 cds in red on reverse) and the cover endorsed "Détaxée" and "5" in manuscript to collect. Balasse Magazine article (1977) accompanies the lot. An attractive and rare cover.

Napoleon 40 c. orange (3) and 80 c. rose (3) giving the double weight rate of 360 c. to Peru, tied by dotted numeral mark "1495" with red BUREAU MARITIME HAVRE cds's alongside, endorsed "S. Atrato" referencing to the steam service by the R.M.S.P. steamer S.S. Atrato to Chagres Panama, carried overland across the isthmus (Panama transit cds July 23) and furtheron via Pacific Steamship Company to Lima. All three 40 c. stamps touched by horizontal archive fold, some minor faults in addition but an exceedingly rare cover with a fine appearance.
