    1878 (June 4): Double rate Registered envelope from the postal administration in Luxemburg to Berlin bearing a mixed franking of 1865 Arms 20 c. brown with coloured roulette and 1875 12½ rose perforated in a block of four, a fine and fresh multiple, the design shifted to the top right, tied by clear strikes of  LUXEMBURG despatch cds with information strike and framed RECOMMANDÉ alongside. In Germany a "Vom Ausland / über Bahnpost 12 / (Pagny - Metz) / Eingeschrieben" railway registration label for registered mail from abroad was added to the obverse. Reverse with distribution cds.     1859 (March 20): Cover from Susteren via Maastricht to Tourcoing, endorsed "Echantillon sans valeur", bearing horizontal pair 1852 Willem 15 c. orange, a superb multiple with large even margins, tied by clear FRANCO - halfrond datestamp of Maastricht. The cover was given to the postal service at the small agency of SUSTEREN nearby Maastricht, a corresponding single-line handstamp was struck to the reverse. It was franked in Maastricht, a "P.D." handstamp was struck to the obverse as well as a French "PAYS BAS 21 MARS 59 LILLE" entry cds, both in red. Reverse shows a partial TOURCOING arrival (March 22) cds. A most appealing cover, the franking paying correctly the 30 cents rate to France with the mention "Sample without value" without any impact on the postal rate. Signed Calves; cert. KNBF (1997).

The obverse was also struck by "P.D." handstamp in red and French "PRUSSE 25 OCT 68 ERQUELINES" entry cds in blue, reverse with another despatch, Moscow transit (Oct 9) and ROUEN arrival (Oct. 26, gregorian) cds's. The obverse shows a weiterfranko of 'wf5½' (silbergroschen) in red crayon credited from Prussia to France. A most attractive franking to France, signed Mikulski Mi = € 900.rnNote: A posad was a settlement in the Russian Empire, often surrounded by ramparts and a moat, adjoining a town or a kremlin, but outside of it, or adjoining a monastery in the 10th to 15th centuries.
