    Occupation stamps Alsace-Lorraine / Okkupationsmarken NDP Elsass-Lothringen 1870: Registered envelope from Drulingen via Lützelstein / Le Petite-Pierre to Strasbourg, bearing a combination of 25 c. brown, 20 c. blue and 5 c. green, all with normal underprint 'burelage droit', tied by Prussian-type "DRULINGEN 15 / 3 71" cds in black. Provisional 'Schlingen'-type registration label 'Recommandirt No.' added to the front. Reverse with Lützelstein transit and "STRASSBURG i. ELSASS" arrival cds's of the next day, both in the Prussian type. Cover with some wrinkles and roughly opened at reverse, nevertheless an interesting and correct franking to pay 25 c. for the postage and 25 c. for the registration fee within Alsace, in addition a rare usage of this preliminary registration label which was only in use in Alsace.

    Occupation stamps Alsace-Lorraine / Okkupationsmarken NDP Elsass-Lothringen 1870: Entire letter from Hagenau to Beaune, bearing a combination franking of Alsace-Lorraine 20 c. blue with normal underprint 'burelage droit' and France Napoléon laureated 20 c. blue type II. The occupation stamp was tied by "HAGENAU i. ELSASS 29 6 71" cds, while a Petits Chiffres du Gros Chiffres '420' lozenge of Beaune cancelled both the occupation and the French adhesive. Reverse with Belfort transit, Bureau de Passe '1307' and arrival (July 2) cds's. Horizontal file fold well away from the franking and some toning, nevertheless an interesting combination franking.     1872 (March 23): Entire letter from Strasbourg to Laval, bearing a combination franking of Germany Small Shield 2 gr. blue (Mi 5) and France Cérès 25 c. blue type I (Yvert 60A). The German Imperial adhesive was tied by framed "STRASSBURG i. ELS / AVRICOURT 19 1 III" ambulant datestamp, the French adhesive in transit by Étoile de Paris mute obliterator in blue. Corresponding datestamps were struck alongside the adhesives with a mute "STRASBOURG (67)" circular handstamp and "PARIS ÉTRANGER 20 JANV. 72" transit cds, both in blue. Reverse with Paris - Brest ambulant and Laval arrival (Jan 21) cds's. A most attractive entire, signed Roumet.rnNote: Even after German Imperial adhesives of the Small Shield design had been issued on January 1st, 1872, combination frankings were necessary to pay the full journey.

    French Shipmail in the Levant 1858 (March 18): Cover from Constantinople to Milano, then under Austrian rule, bearing Napoléon imperf. 20 c. blue type I and 80 c. carmine, two fine adhesives with fresh colour, tied by light Anchor lozenge in black. Circular GANGE ship cds and framed PD, both in black alongside, both struck on the vessel on its way to the west. Upon arrival in Genova, three-line "PIROSCAFI POSTALI FRANCESI" and "N.A.", both in red were struck to the obverse.     French Post Offices in the Levant, Syria 1872 (July 24): Cover from Aleppo via Alexandrette to London, which made its way from Aleppo to Alexandrette / Iskenderun with a courrier outside the postal service. In Alexandrette a horizontal pair of Napoléon laureated 30 c. light-brown were added to the obverse, fresh and fine adhesives, tied by clear Gros Chiffres '5079'. A matching clear "ALEXANDRETTE SYRIE 24 JUIL 72" despatch cds, framed PD in black and "LONDON E.C. PAID 7 AU 72" arrival cds in red alongside. Reverse with BEYROUTH and PARIS transit cds's and a Paris - Calais ambulant cds. 'azzuro ardesia' type II, a single fresh adhesives with good to large margins all round, a pre-cut in the left margin just mentioned for accuracy, tied by "MANTOVA 24 / 7" cds to 1854 cover directed to Bruxelles. Obverse was struck by "DOPO LA PARTENZA" handstamp in red and oval "BOLLO INSUFFICIENTE" handstamp in violet. Reverse with "ALLEMAGNE EST" railway transit and BRUXELLES arrival cds (July 29). The letter was partially paid until the border of the GAPU, therefore taxed with '3' (décimes) for the second Belgian rayon following the postal treaty of January 1852.

    1859: 1 gr. rose-carmine, plate II in a superb horizontal strip of five with overall huge margins, the multiple tied by framed ANNULATO handstamp and part strike of  "PARTENZA DA NAPOLI 14 GEN 1861" despatch cds with inverted year slug in red to entire letter directed to Chiaromonte. Upon arrival arrival in Chiaromonte in the Basilicata, an arrival cds was struck to the reverse (Jan 26) but the receiver was not found and the entire returned to Napoli. The receiver's address was specified by adding 'di Sicilia', the cover was again despatched from Napoli (Jan 31), it passed Messina (Feb 2) where an additional oval FRANCA was struck to the obverse.
