    1890 (Sept 3-6): De La Rue Die Proofs (8), stamp size printed in black on white glazed card and affixed to brown card from the DLR day-book, with LEEWARD ISLANDS at top on each, top row with Duty Plates of ½ d., 1 d., 2½ d. and 4 d. with manuscript "Sep 3rd. 60 Leads each die", second row with Duty Plates of 6 d., 7 d., 1 s. and 5 s. with manuscript "Sep 6, 60 Lead each die" and further marked with invoice date in red "Oct 14 90" with the Proofs crossed in same ink.     1890 (Oct 31): 1 d. dull mauve & rose, a used example showing the spectacular 2.5 mm. shift of both LEEWARD ISLANDS and the 1 d. Duty Plate upwards and to the right, on cover front to Jolly Hill, tied by St. John's / Antigua cds. When one considers how many sheets of stamps that De La Rue printed, it is extraordinary how few major varieties such as this ever occurred.     1890: 2½ d. dull mauve & ultramarine, a single example used on 1897 cover to Ottawa, Canada cancelled in transit by "St. John's / Canada" squared circle datestamp (Feb 11) with two strikes (one partial) of very rare "ST. JOHN NB / SHIP LETTER" in black at left. Further strike of the squared circle on reverse and Ottawa arrival (Feb12). A fine and attractive cover.

Oval 'R' in black and St. Thomas transit on reverse (with red registration cachet on front), thence via Baltimore, St. John's, Halifax and Amherst (April 21). Arricator on front but a scarce stamp on letter.

    Sexagenary 1897 (July 22): Diamond Jubilee set of eight values with handstamped overprints in black unused, all in blocks of four, the ½ d. with interpanneau margin and the 1 s. marginal from top of sheet, all of fresh colours, the 2½ d. block with a couple of spots on gum, the 4 d. with some rust spots not affecting the appearance, all with large part or unmounted og. Exceptionally rare - just three sets now exist in blocks of four, with one housed in the collection of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Two Certs. BPA (1978) for 1 s. and 5 s. values Gi = £ 2'800+.
