    Madeira 1858: Portugal 25 r. rose, touched to fine margins, used on 1861 cover from Madeira to Paris tied by "51" numeral obliterator in black with fine oval "MADEIRA" handstamp in blue at left. Circular "Espagne / St. Jean de Luz" entry mark on obverse (March 11) in blue and charged '15' décimes due in manuscript on arrival. Lisbon and Badajoz transits on reverse of an attractive cover.

    1858: Covers (2) to France each franked by single 25 r. rose, with 1859 cover to Marans tied by Porto '52' numeral with Porto despatch cds (Feb 12), with 'Tuy / Espana' transit cds in blue and 'Portugal / Bayonne' entry marking, charged '15' décimes handstruck for single rate; second cover mailed in 1860 with superb 25 r. rose similarly tied and also via Tuy, entry marking "Portugal - St. Jean de Lux / Amb. A." in black and charged at double rate with handstruck '30' décimes charge in black. A fine pair.

    1862: Entire letters (2) to France each franked by fine single 25 r. rose, with 1865 entire to St. Etienne tied by Lisbon '1' numeral with  despatch cds (Aug 26), 'Portugal / St. Jean de Luz' entry marking in red, charged '8' décimes handstruck for single rate; second entire mailed in 1866 with 25 r. rose tied by '120' numeral and GUARDA despatch, same entry marking in red and charged at double rate with handstruck '16' décimes charge in black. Second entire a tad aged but a fine pair.

    Funchal 1883: Stampless cover from Funchal, Madeira to Paris struck with oval "CORREIO / FUNCHAL" datestamp (June 25) in black with circular "T" marking at left. Taxed on arrival (July 2) with Duval 1881 Postage Due 10 c. black and 40 c. black (Maury T15+T19) tied by triangular handstamps in black. Slightly soiled but scarce.

    1890: Stampless Official cover with handstamped "Legation de la République Française / en Portugal" cachet in blue, carried by Diplomatic bag with weight annotated at '28' grams at upper left. Taxed on arrival at double rate with rare usage of 1884 Van Dyck Postage Due 1 fr. marron (Maury T25) tied by "Lyon / Rhine" cds (Dec 5). Envelope with slight trim at top but a rare stamp on letter.

    1893: Stampless envelope mailed from Paris to Lisbon with despatch cds (Jan 10) in black and triangular "T" marking; taxed on arrival with '100' reis charge mark in black and refused by addressee (the Comte de Valbom) with "REFUGO / PORTUGAL" datestamp in violet. Returned to sender and struck with three line "RETOUR / A L'ENVOYEUR / RÉCLAMATIONS" twice in blue and charged with 1881 Postage Due 50 c. black (Maury T20) with Lisbon cds and re-arrival Paris cds (April 14) on reverse.
