    Papal States 1852 (Jan 10): Entire letter from Bologna to Lyon, bearing 1852 (Jan) ½ baj. black on greyish and 7 baj. black on blue, two fine and fresh examples with primarily large to huge margins all round (½ baj. touched at right), tied by BOLOGNA despatch cds in black, the 7 baj. in addition by "T.A." postal treaty handstamp in red. French "AUTR. 11 JANV. 52 BEAUVOISIN" entry cds in red alongside. Upon arrival taxed with '10' décimes. Horizontal filing fold well away from the adhesives, an impressive and interesting part paid entire despatched in the second week after the issuance of Papal States adhesives, the franking paying correctly the inland rate to the Austrian boarder while the receiver had to pay the residual journey from that point. Rismondo (2005).rnNote: Prior to October 1852, letters from the Papal States had to be prepaid to the Austrian border, while the Austrian, Sardinian  and French parts of the journey had to be paid by the receiver.

    Papal States 1852/67: Lot four covers incl. Sept. 1852 paid with 5 baj. correctly to the border while the receiver had to pay '10' décesimi; 1862 double rate cover with two examples of 5 baj. instead of 20 baj, therefore regarded as unpaid and taxed with '20' décesimi; 1863 double rate cover franked only for the first weight rate with pair 7 baj. & single 6 baj., regarded as unpaid and taxed with '20' décesimi; also 1867 local letter within Rome franked with 2 baj. and forwarded to Marseille, taxed with '8' décesimi. An intetesting and diverse lot.
