The stamp is tied by a beautifully contrasting bright red MC. A Cambridge strike on the reverse confirms the date. The London arrival mark is from the following day. A rare and interesing early May 1840 usage of a Penny Black.

The stamp is tied by a Poulton Penny Post two line cachet, as well as a magenta Preston MC. According to Rockoff Jackson the Preston MC was struck in magenta between 12. December 1840 and 19 February 1841. The Preston date stamp is 4 January 1841. This letter is not recorded by Rockoff Jackson.     1864: 1s. green, plate 1, lettered NE/NF, two copies on official letter from London to St. Helena, each tied by a London WC 3 obliterator. The letter to the exeptionally rare destination went on its journey to the US Consul on the island via Devonport. The NE stamp had the wing margin removed before use, which does not detract from the beauty of this extraordinary to a rare destination letter.

The stamps are tied by London SP 13 Duplex WC 3. Both 1d. stamps show the very unusual fancy perfin E.R.L. with a triangle. On the back part of the flap is missing but a very attractive display item with a good destination.

    1898: 2 1/2d. purple/blue, Jubilee Issue on a delightful water colour hand painted envelope from Perth/Scotland to Saint Lucia. The image is depicting a young lady straddling a wall, where the address is ingeniously incorporated into the design. This romantic drawing was made by Captain, later Colonel Hugh Rose of the Black Watch. This gem from the famous King-Harman correspondence would grace any collection. A receiving mark St. Lucia is on the back of the envelope.
