    Spanish American War 1898: Stampless cover from Spanish POW on "U.S.M.S New York" printed envelope, mailed to Cadiz under free concessionary rate with five line "Prisoner's Letter / Censored and forwarded / Navy Department / Bureau of Navgation / Washington DC" in violet. Manuscript dated July 16, 1898 with faint Cadiz arrival cds on reverse. Scarce.

    1871/75: France Cérès 30 c. pale brown pair used on 1873 cover from Havana to Vera Cruz tied by dotted Anchor lozenge with octagonal LA HAVANE Consular datestamp below (Dec 10) in black (Salles fig. 1365). Reverse with circular LIGNE B / PAQ. FR. No. 2 datestamp (Dec 11) in black (Salles fig. 1431) and carried on the 'Lafayette'. A few wrinkles but a scarce and attractive cover.

Reverse with circular LIGNE B / PAQ. FR. No. 2 datestamp (June 22) in black (Salles fig. 1431) and carried on the 'Ville de St. Nazaire' with Bordeaux arrival (July 12).
