    1866: Dom Pedro 10 r. vermilion, 20 r. red lilac in a horizontal pair and single 50 r. blue all tied to reverse of 1869 entire letter to Figueira, Portugal by dotted black handstamps. Endorsed "per Gironde, via Havre" on front and struck with rare usage of framed Convention marking "F-46" in black (Van der Linden fig. 1182). Charged due on receipt with handstruck '25' (reis) to pay in black (Jan 15, 1870). Minor faults to adhesives presumably on opening of letter, but a rare and most unusual three colour franking of delightful visual appeal.

    1877 (July 15): Cover from Santos to Marseille with perforated 1866 60 r. grey-black and rouletted Dom Pedro 1876/77 200 r. black tied by segmented cork cancels in black, Rio de Janeiro cds alongside clearly dated '15-JUL-77' being the second week of the UPU rate - possibly the earliest recorded - carried on French Packet "Orenoque" with "Rio-Janeiro / Paq Fr. J. No. 3" circular datestamp on reverse. Minor imperfections but a rare and important cover.
