    Recess by Perkins Bacon 1855/58: (½ d.) yellow-green on white paper, the 1857 printing, an unused block of nine, marginal from left of sheet, large margins all round, vibrant typically cloudy colour associated with this printing, fresh and very fine, large part or unmounted og. We can trace just two other blocks of this size, one ex Burrus and the other, the former block of twelve in the Joseph Hackmey collection which is separated into a block of four and a block of eight. Delightful and of great rarity. Cert. Illustrated in 'The Stamps of Barbados' by Edmund Bayley on colour plate IV.     Rough perforation 14 to 16 1861/70: 1 s. blue, Error of Colour, rough perforation 14 to 16, an unused example of this famous stamp, centred to base showing portion of the adjoining stamp, infintessimal trace of aging but of fine fresh colour, unused without gum. A world rarity with just nine examples believed to exist, one of which is in the Tapling collection at the British Library and another is housed in the collection of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. A wonderful stamp. Signed R. Goebel. Cert. RPSL (1984) Gi = £ 18'000.rnNote: All of the 'unused' examples were manuscript cancelled by the Colonial Secretary with a pen cross to prevent re-use and the pen crosses have in most cases been removed since. The Colonial Secretary, Jas. R. Holligan, stated in a letter to Perkins Bacon (Sept 25, 1863) "only a few having been disposed of for a postage label album".rnProvenance: Collection Hodsell Hurlock, Harmers, London, 16-24 June 1958, lot 296.
