    1861 (July): 1 d. carmine-rose, wmk. Small Star, clean-cut perf. 14 at Somerset House, the remarkable re-joined vertical pair sharing bold strike of the Perkins Bacon "CANCELLED" obliterator in black, applied by favour of Perkins Bacon upon the request, in April 1861 by Ormond Hill who required copies of stamps, other than those of Great Britain for his collection. Perkins Bacon sent, in September 1861, six examples of each stamp held in stock, to Mr. Pearson Hill and asked him to forward four of the examples to Ormond Hill. The resulting fracas led to the termination of some of Perkins Bacon's Colonial contracts. A wonderful and choice pair, the upper stamp with tiny manuscript stain on top stamp, lower stamp with somewhat clipped perfs. but showing the Plate error, position 72 on the sheet, with "N" and "S" of QUEENSLAND joined. The Find included a part sheet of 106 stamps with two rows imperforate between horizontally, although the photograph in the original catalogue clearly shows one imperforate row, the second such is not at all clear. This strip is certainly from the find due to it's overall freshness and quality and a copy of it's position on the Mayfair block of 106 stamps is attached. rnrn

This is the same strip erroneously described in Basset Hull.
