    1859: 1 gr. carmine, plate II with large to huge to enormous margins, tied by small circular "AMALFI 17 AGO 61" datestamp (Sassone SA = 12 punti) to entire letter directed to Salerno, reverse with Bourbon-style arrival cds of the next day. This 'cerchio piccolo' - type datestamp came in  use after the adherence of Naples to the Regno di Italia. The entire was taxed with '1' (gr.) as the franking did not pay the special 2 grana rate within the province which was in force from February 1861 to September 1862. Cert. E.     1859: 1 gr. rose-carmine, plate II in a superb horizontal strip of five with overall huge margins, the multiple tied by framed ANNULATO handstamp and part strike of  "PARTENZA DA NAPOLI 14 GEN 1861" despatch cds with inverted year slug in red to entire letter directed to Chiaromonte. Upon arrival arrival in Chiaromonte in the Basilicata, an arrival cds was struck to the reverse (Jan 26) but the receiver was not found and the entire returned to Napoli. The receiver's address was specified by adding 'di Sicilia', the cover was again despatched from Napoli (Jan 31), it passed Messina (Feb 2) where an additional oval FRANCA was struck to the obverse. A stunning franking to pay correctly the 5 grana rate of a letter between 11 and 15 trappesi, an entire full of postal history. Signed G. & A. Bolaffi, A. Diena Sassone = € 10'000.

Obverse struck with light "CIVITAVECCHIA / DALLA VIA DI MARE" handstamp in black. Reverse with Napoli despatch (Oct 6, 1860) in red, also Civitavecchia transit and ROMA arrival (Oct 8) cds's. Correctly paid double letter rate of 10 gr. for 2 sheets to the Papal border, while the receiver had to pay only the single letter rate of '8' bajocchi upon arrival. Reverse with Napoli transit (Oct 12) cds in red and MALTA arrival (Oct 17) cds in black. Part of address torn out but skillfully replaced, nevertheless a most interesting piece of postal history, correctly franked with 15 grana for French shipmail transport until the port of disembarkation following the Franco-Bourbon postal treaty of 1854.
