    1840 (July 6): Entire letter from Calcutta to Bordeaux endorsed "Via Bombay and the Persian Gulf", with red rate box on reverse "Steam Postage - 9 / Inland Ditto 16 / Total 1 r. 7 a." filled in manuscript, framed INDIA in red and 'Paquebots / De La / Mediterranée' in red, charged '29' décimes in manuscript on arrival (Sept 3).

    1856: 4 a. grey black in vert. strip of three, good perf, tied by "B/57" numeral to cover from Calcutta (DE 26 62) via London (FE 16 63) to New York (MAR 5), endorsed "via Southampton", "16 cents" accountancy in red alongside, reverse with Chupram despatch cds (23 DEC 1862) in red. A fine letter carried from Chuprah (23.12.1862) - Calcutta (25.12.), one day too late for the P&O "Simla", 9.1.63 per P&O "Bengal" - Madras (13./14.1.) - Galle (16./18.1.) - Aden (26.1.) - Suez (1.2.) - Overland Mail, 5th phase - Alexandria (4.2.) per P&O "Ripon" - Malta (7.2.) - Gibraltar (11.2.) - Southampton (16.2.) - London (16.2.) per Inman line "City of New York" - New York (5.3.).

    1856: 4 a. grey black, good perf with large part of neighbouring stamp, tied by private "Stamped" and "B/1" numeral in blue to cover to Mauritius with manuscript "p. Erymanthe via Aden" (French vessel) and framed INDIA PAID in red alongside, reverse with Calcutta cds (D 2 1864) in red and "MAURITIUS JA 5 65" arrival cds in blue. "6d / TO PAY" due, a fine and fresh part paid cover.

    Missent 1892: Germany 5 pf. stationery card up-rated with further 5 pf. green tied by 'Braunschweig' cds addressed to Soro (Denmark). Card was missent to Soro (India) and was struck by SEA POST OFFICE / B datestamps (Type 7) four times: Carried by 'Oriental' (Dec 27) at Suez again on returning 'Oriental' at Bombay (Jan 1, 1893), then the 'Peninsular' (Feb 7) at Aden and lastly carried by the 'Siam' (April 1) at Bombay and the cover mailed on to correct address in Denmark, arriving after a four month journey. Struck with good strike of framed MISSENT IN / INDIAN MAIL in black and also with two Dead Letter Office / Calcutta handstamps. A few faults as to be expected, an extraordinary usage.

    1854: ½ a. and 1 a. composite sheets of sixteen, three sheets: one in blue, another in red and a third in black, all printed by lithographic transfer in 1890 showing a 32 mm. gap between the two rows on medium yellowish unwatermarked paper, slight age spots and each with pencil manuscript notations stating purchase from Eugene Klein in March 1939. Rare and most attractive trio (Spence 89/41, 90/42 and 91/43).

    1854: Lithographed Essays pulled from the original Plate in December 1890 during Tapling's visit to India, a composite sheet in lake-red on parchment paper showing 2 a. designs both rectangular (D1) and octagonal design (D2) flanking the 4 a. (Die III) and the head only; wavy lined surround for the 4 anna, some light aging but of great rarity (Spence 6, 7, 8, 50c).
