    1850: Thomas Ham 'Two Pence Blue' Essay, photo-lithographic facsimile of the original Essay which is in the Thomas Tapling Collection in the British Library, comprising three impressions on glazed card with black ink endorsement at left and further manuscript '3d.' and 'This Blue would be brighter, T. H.'. This facsimile was produced by Alfred van Dyck, some time before the originals were sold by him to Tapling and prior to Thomas Tapling's death in 1891. We record just this sole example of this reproduction last sold at Sotheby's, London, 15 December 1995, lot 321. Ex collection W. W. Mann and docketed thus in pencil on reverse.

These 'water strikes' are nowadays scarce, largely due to forgers realising that the 'water strikes' would wash off more easily to form an unused stamp.
