30 parale deep blue, Plate Printing, a single example tied to 1864 entire letter to Jassy by "Theologo Frères / Galatz" Company cachet in blue and by "Galatz / Moldova" datestamp (28/9) in black. A fine example of a security measure against theft of stamps (as per Indian covers of the same period). Adhesive with minor imperfections but a scarce and most unusual entire. Illustrated in Edition d'Or on page 102. Cert. Heimbüchler (2010).Ausruf : 400 CHFZuschlag : 440 CHFLosnr. : 6068 Rumänien
Posta Galbina 1864: Cover front to Jassy struck with the unique octagonal framed handstamp made by the Galbina Postmaster G. Rezmeritá, showing Post Horse and "GR" Postmaster's initials and "POSTA GALBINU-1864", struck in violet with manuscript "Cu porto" alongside (an insight as to how the private Postmaster's linked with the nascent postal system) and rate "30" parale in red crayon. Slight file hole in centre not greatly detracting from the appearance of this rarity. With comments on this item from Dragomir Kiriac and Dr. L. N. Tripcovici. The sole recorded example in private hands. See Kiriac Dragomir. Illustrated in Edition d'Or on page 93. Cert. Heimbüchler (2010). Provenance: Collection Edouard Cohen.Ausruf : 6.000 CHFZuschlag : 6.000 CHFLosnr. : 6069 Rumänien
1865: 2 parale orange, small piece with horizontal pair slightly over-lapping an extremely rare horizontal strip of five, the pair just touched at lower left, the strip of five with huge margins all round and insignificant corner bend at upper left; all cancelled by "Iassi" datestamps (28/9) in black (Kiriac fig. 399). An extraordinarily rare piece with the stamps in a vibrant rich shade and an extremely rare multiple: in all probability the largest known. Illustrated in Edition d'Or on page108 and in Handbook II on page 163. Cert. Heimbüchler (2009).
Note: Both this and the next lot with the 5 pa. block of four were sent to the Ministry of Justice in Bucharest, this piece was mailed on September 28th, the 5pa. cover being mailed on September 22nd. Both were used to make the normal 20 parale rate and therefore indicate that the 20 pa. value had run short in Jassy during that week.Ausruf : 10.000 CHFZuschlag : nicht verkauftLosnr. : 6070 Rumänien
5 parale blue, the famous block of four on cover from Jassy to Bucharest, the adhesives just touched at top right of the block otherwise close but clear all round and large at right; the cover front and large part back with side flaps removed and some minor filling to the paper at top right; however this is one of only two known usages of a Cuza 5 pa. blue block of four on letter, being neatly tied by "Iassi" datestamps (22/9) in black (Kiriac fig. 399). Bucharest arrival cds (25/9) on reverse of a rare and attractive cover. Illustrated in Edition d'Or on page 108 and in Handbook II on page 164. Cert. Heimbüchler (2009).
