    1840 (May 6): Cover written from Edinburgh to Elgin on the Official First Day of Issue of the 1 d. black, sent prepaid with fine two line DUKE / STREET in black and handstruck "1" and "PAID at EDINB." datestamp (May 6, 1840) well struck in red. Rare, the 1 d. black not yet available in Edinburgh on the 'First Day', there being no May 6th usages recorded from Edinburgh bearing a 1 d. black in Jackson's May Dates. An exceptional and extremely attractive cover.
